The House this morning, followed by the Senate this afternoon, passed a 90-day extension of current surface transportation programs, which were set to expire on March 31. The measure now is on its way to President Obama for his signature.

The House approved H.R. 4281 — which extends SAFETEA-LU for the ninth time since September 2009 —by a vote of 266 to 158, according to a prepared statement issued by Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.), chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

“The House will continue to work toward passing a long-term transportation reform bill that reduces the size of government, streamlines the project approval process, provides flexibility for states to fund their priorities, eliminates earmarks and is fully paid for,” Mica said.

The Senate passed H.R. 4281 by a voice vote, according to the U.S. Senate Democrats’ website.
