T&I Committee Chair Shuster kicks off transportation 'roadshow'

House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) will host two days of meetings and events in Pennsylvania this week that will focus on the nation's transportation infrastructure, economic competitiveness and the need for Congress to pass a long-term funding bill.

The Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee's "Pennsylvania Roadshow" also will include Pennsylvania members of Congress, transportation committee members, state officials and transportation secretaries from across the country.

The roadshow will begin today in Pittsburgh, then travel to Altoona and Harrisburg, and wrap up in Reading and eastern Pennsylvania on Wednesday.

Transportation secretaries from other states are joining Shuster and committee members to discuss efforts at the state level that are necessary or in place to improve transportation project delivery and maximize funding for roads, bridges and other infrastructure, T&I officials said in a press release.

Shuster has said one of the committee's highest priorities this year is to pass long-term surface transportation bill. An extension of the current legislation, known as MAP-21, is set to expire May 31.
