The Surface Transportation Board (STB) has postponed the effective dates of exemptions related to the Colorado, Midland & Pacific Railway Co.'s (CMPR) petition to lease and operate Union Pacific Railroad's Tennessee Pass Line in Colorado.
A newly formed subsidiary of Rio Grande Pacific Corp, the CMPR in December 2020 filed a "verified notice of exemption" with the STB to lease from UP and operate 163 miles of the Tennessee Pass Line between Parkdale and Sage, Colorado. In a notice of exemption filed concurrently, the Rio Grande sought the STB's approval to continue control of CMPR after it becomes a Class III rail carrier.
The exemptions were scheduled to become effective Jan. 31. But in a Jan. 29 decision, the STB determined those exemptions will not become effective "until further notice of the board."

Meanwhile, the STB also announced that member Robert Primus has been designated as the board's vice chairman. Primus was sworn in as an STB member on Jan. 7.
