The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will re-establish the Transit Advisory Committee for Safety (TRACS), the agency announced yesterday.
TRACS provides information and recommendations on transit safety as determined by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez. Its most recent charter expired in September 2020.
For more than 10 years, the committee made recommendations to FTA on issues such as management systems, safety oversight, the Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan and railroad trespass and suicide prevention.
Once filed with Congress, the new charter will be effective for two years. A notice soliciting TRACS member nominations will be published in the Federal Register in the coming weeks, FTA officials said in a press release.
