Canada Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez last week announced the establishment of Canada's National Supply Chain Office.
In collaboration with industry, labor, Indigenous groups and other levels of government, the office will work to increase efficiency and resiliency across Canadian supply chains, including mitigating impacts from disruptions, Transport Canada officials said in a news release. The initiative is supported by CA$27.2 million in the 2023 federal budget.
The office will also develop and implement a national supply chain strategy to identify priorities and support collaborative action to improve Canada's supply chains. An efficient and reliable transportation network is key to Canada's economic growth, Transport Canada officials said.
The creation of the office delivers on one of the recommendations of a National Supply Chain Task Force report. The organizations participating in the task force include CN, Canadian Pacific Kansas City and Cando Rail and Terminals.
