STB to begin environmental review of proposed Green Eagle Railroad line

The Surface Transportation Board yesterday issued a notice of availability of the final scope of study for the environmental impact statement (EIS) being prepared in connection with Green Eagle Railroad LLC’s proposed construction and operation of a Texas rail line.

The proposed 1.3-mile rail line in Maverick County would be part of the proposed Puerto Verde Global Trade Bridge project, which calls for a new trade corridor for freight rail and commercial motor vehicles between Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and Eagle Pass, Texas.

The STB’s Office of Environmental Analysis will prepare and issue a draft EIS, which will examine potential environmental impacts of the project. The draft EIS also will feature the office’s preliminary recommendations for mitigation measures.

Once the draft EIS is issued, the office will request public input on the document. More information on the proposed project can be reviewed here
