As the federal surface transportation authorization law nears expiration in May, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on Wednesday announced the start of a multimedia campaign aimed at persuading lawmakers to prioritize long-term transportation investments. Dubbed "Nation at a Crossroads," the campaign will communicate its messages through print materials, a new website and mobile app.The campaign's site includes a "state impact" portion, which provides information on the ways transportation funding affects individual states and their projects. The site also features an extensive infographic displaying facts and figures culled by the AASHTO, the American Public Transportation Association and the American Society of Civil Engineers. "The reality is that the recent pattern of short-term funding actions hampers states' ability to even plan for the next construction season," said AASHTO Executive Director Bud Wright in a statement.
