The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA) is providing $91,800 to support public participation in its federal environmental assessment of the proposed Cóte-Nord Mining Railway Project in Québec. The participation would include public consultation related to the project's Draft Environmental Assessment Report and Environmental Impact Statement.

Cóte-Nord Mining Railway Co. Inc. proposes to build and operate a 340-mile rail line in the Cóte-Nord and Labrador regions. Rail right of way would extend between Sept-Íles, Quebec, and Wabush/Labrador City, Labrador, where the route would connect with a Tshiuetin Railway line. The project would include new ore handling and storage facilities at the Port of Sept-Íles in Pointe-Noire.

CN and Caisse de dépót et placement du Québec are joint investors in Cóte-Nord Mining Railway, and have undertaken a feasibility study on the potential construction of the line to serve ore miners in the vicinity of Fermont and Schefferville. Ore would be transported daily in trains featuring up to 250 cars and five locomotives.

Construction on the line is scheduled to begin in early 2014 and take about 18 months to three years to complete. Rail operations would start in 2016.
