The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is seeking comment on a proposed rule that would require certain railroads to develop and implement a fatigue-risk management program as part of the railroads' larger railroad- safety risk-reduction programs.
The notice of proposed rulemaking was published Dec. 22, 2020, in the Federal Register. Comments are due Feb. 22.
Under the proposal, railroads would determine their fatigue risk by identifying and analyzing applicable hazards and take action to mitigate, if not eliminate, that risk.
If finalized, the rule would fulfill a mandate under the Rail Safety Improvement Act of 2008.
