The Federal Transit Administration on March 27 announced the availability of $212.3 million in grants under the Public Transportation Emergency Relief Program.

Transit agencies affected by major declared disasters in calendar years 2017 and 2020-2022 are eligible to apply. The program helps states and public transportation systems pay for repairing and/or replacing equipment and facilities seriously damaged by floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural disasters.

The program also can fund operating costs of evacuation, rescue operations, temporary public transportation service, or reestablishing, expanding, or relocating service before, during or after an emergency, FTA officials said in a press release.

Grant applications are due May 26.
