Earlier this week, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee approved the Saving Energy Through Public Transportation Use Act of 2008 (H.R. 6052).
The bill would authorize $1.7 billion to expand transit service and reduce fares.
“With energy costs soaring and congestion continuing to rise, public transportation can provide commuters and travelers with alternatives and ease the burden on our clogged highways,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Republican Leader John Mica (R-Fla.) in a prepared statement.
