The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) now has access to the final appropriation of $187.3 million from the federal government for the North and Southeast light-rail lines in Houston.U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) announced the funding news late last week during a tour of the North Line and lines under construction, METRO officials said in a press release.The funds are part of the Full Funding Grant Agreements (FFGA) that federal officials signed in 2011 to help METRO build the lines."All of those funds have been allocated now to METRO in the FFGA — $93 million additional for the North Line [and] $93 million additional for the Southeast Line," said METRO President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Lambert.The North Line, which opened in December 2013, is a 5.3-mile extension of the existing Red Line. The Southeast Line and the locally-funded East End Line are slated to open later this year.
