Metra sues STB over CPKC merger decisions

Chicago commuter railroad Metra has asked a federal court to review the Surface Transportation Board's decision to approve the Canadian Pacific-Kansas City Southern merger, as well as another decision related to regulatory oversight of the merged railroad.

The STB yesterday provided notice of Metra's suit, which was filed late last month in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Metra is asking the court to review the STB's March 15 decision to approve the merger, as well as the board’s Sept. 1, 2023, decision regarding details involved in regulatory oversight of CPKC.

Union Pacific Railroad and a group of Chicago suburban communities known as the Coalition to Stop CPKC also have filed suits seeking judicial review of the STB's merger approval.
