The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating a Feb. 13 accident involving a CSX employee who was struck and killed by a construction train on the railroad's Northend Subdivision in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina.
The accident occurred near the 10th Street grade crossing, where the employee was performing maintenance on the tracks when he was struck by the slow-moving construction train, WRAL News reported yesterday.
In a social media post, NTSB announced an investigative team was on its way to the scene.
Meanwhile, CSX had to reroute trains and adjust service following a 10-car derailment that occurred Feb. 12 in Morgan County, Virginia, the Class I announced in a customer advisory. No injuries were reported and none of the rail cars carrying hazardous materials lost their contents, the advisory stated.
CSX teams were onsite making repairs; the company expected to resume service on one of the two impacted rail lines by yesterday afternoon.
