The Federal Railroad Administration will conduct safety assessments of all major U.S. railroads in the wake of the Feb. 3 derailment of a Norfolk Southern Railway train in East Palestine, Ohio, Reuters reported yesterday.
The FRA reviews were sought by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and will be similar to a recently completed review of NS' safety culture, practices and compliance.
The assessments will be conducted over the next year, FRA Administrator Amit Bose told Schumer in a letter obtained by Reuters.
