SEPTA, FTA officials open new Croydon station

Last week, Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff joined Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) officials in officially opening the Croydon regional rail station.
The station underwent major upgrades funded by $8.5 million in federal stimulus dollars and $11 million from the Federal Transportation Administration. The upgrades included new platforms, stairways and passenger shelters, and an expanded parking area for commuters.
The station renovation was one of 32 projects SEPTA has been able to undertake “with a big boost” from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which has helped create jobs in the region— including 247 for the station project — and “bring better transportation choices” to southeastern Pennsylvania, Rogoff said in a prepared statement.
The station, which is located about 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia on SEPTA’s Trenton Line, averages 300 riders per weekday.
