Surface Transportation Board (STB) Chairman Martin Oberman late last week announced he will retire from the board on May 10.
Oberman informed President Biden of his plans by letter, STB officials said in a press release.
Oberman was sworn in as a board member on Jan. 22, 2019, and Biden designated him chairman on Jan. 21, 2021
"I leave government service with the greatest respect for the work of the board and for the agency staff, who have an unrelenting commitment to public service," Oberman said.
In November 2023, Oberman announced at Progressive Railroading's RailTrends® conference in New York City that he would not seek reappointment after his term expired Dec. 31, 2024. He said at the time that he would continue to serve several months into 2024.
