The Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) Office of Environmental Analysis (OEA) has issued a final environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed Uinta Basin Railway project in Utah.
The Seven County Infrastructure Coalition is seeking STB authority to construct and operate the proposed rail line, which would extend 85 miles from two terminus points in the Uinta Basin near South Myton Bench and Leland Bench to an existing Union Pacific Railroad line near Kyune, Utah. The coalition is working with Rio Grande Pacific Corp. — which would operate the line — and others to develop the project.
The OEA issued a draft EIS on the proceeding on Oct. 30, 2020, for public review and comment. The public comment period ended on Feb. 12, 2021.
The final EIS responds to comments received on the draft EIS, recommends the Whitmore Park alternative as the environmentally preferred alternative and sets forth the OEA’s final recommended mitigation measures, according to an STB press release.
