The Surface Transportation Board (STB) yesterday issued a decision in its review of the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern merger application, directing the two Class Is to address an issue regarding certain data submitted to the board.
The STB wants the railroads to address an "inconsistency in the calculation of traffic density numbers," as well as indicate which baseline data sets submitted should be used in analyzing the environmental and transportation impacts of the merger.
CP and KCS have until March 21 to respond. Replies to their submission are due no later than five days later. In the meantime, the board suspended the procedural schedule in the merger review until the matter is addressed.
CP will submit a full explanation of the data by March 21, company officials said in a press release.
"We look forward to the STB restarting the procedural schedule for its review of the proposed CP-KCS transaction following its review of the explanation applicants will provide," they said.
