The Surface Transportation Board (STB) is seeking candidates to fill four vacancies on the Rail Energy Transportation Advisory Committee (RETAC). The board is soliciting nominations from the public until Dec. 27.

The STB is seeking a representative from: a state or municipally owned electric utility (for a three-year term ending Sept. 30, 2015); a biofuel refiner, processor, distributor, feedstock grower or provider (for a three-year term ending Sept. 30, 2015); a coal producer (for the remainder of a three-year term ending Sept. 30, 2014); and a petroleum producer or shipper (for a three-year term ending Sept. 30, 2015).

The candidate in the latter position, which will be established due to the growing trend of petroleum shipments by rail, will fill one of RETAC's three at-large seats, STB members said in a nomination announcement.

Established by the board in 2007, RETAC serves as a federal advisory committee that provides independent policy advice to the STB. Members include a cross-section of energy and rail industry stakeholders who aim to foster open, effective communication on issues such as railroad performance, capacity constraints, infrastructure planning and development, and effective coordination among suppliers, carriers and energy users.
