The Surface Transportation Board (STB) is seeking nominations for candidates to fill two vacancies for small railroad representatives on the board's Railroad-Shipper Transportation Advisory Council.

The council advises the STB's chairman, the U.S. transportation secretary and Congress on rail transportation policy issues of interest to small shippers and short lines. Such issues may include rail-car supply, rates, competition and procedures for addressing claims.

The council is charged with developing private-sector mechanisms to identify, address and prevent obstacles to effective and efficient interstate transportation, STB officials said in a press release.

A council member is appointed for a three-year term. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms.

Candidate suggestions should be filed with the STB by Feb. 12.
