STB to prepare environmental statement on proposed CP-KCS merger

The Surface Transportation Board's (STB) Office of Environmental Analysis (OEA) today issued a notice of intent (NOI) to prepare an environmental impact statement (EIS) in connection with Canadian Pacific's proposed acquisition of Kansas City Southern.

The OEA determined the preparation of the EIS is appropriate because the proposed acquisition "has the potential to result in significant environmental impacts," STB officials said in a press release.

The OEA will accept comments on the scope of the EIS, including alternatives and issues to be analyzed, until Dec. 17. The OEA will hold six online public scoping meetings during the comment period from Nov. 30 to Dec. 9.
