Santa Clara VTA to receive state credit for excess solar power

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger recently signed Assembly Bill 2466, which will enable the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and other agencies to generate excess renewable energy at one facility and receive credit toward power consumption at another site.

For example, VTA's light-rail operating facility does not have enough room to install solar panels to generate more electricity; under the new legislation, the agency can generate more solar power at one of its bus facilities and receive a credit on its electricity bill at the light-rail facility.

VTA is in the midst of implementing a sustainability program that includes converting five Santa Clara County facilities to solar power.
