Yesterday, U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), who chairs the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, along with Sens. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and David Vitter (R-La.) announced plans to markup a two-year surface transportation bill on Nov. 9. Baucus chairs the Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee and Vitter is the subcommittee’s ranking member.

The bill, dubbed “Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century (MAP-21),” is a bipartisan effort to “hold spending at current levels plus inflation,” according to an EPW Committee press release. The measure would “greatly increase” the leveraging of federal dollars, and modernize and reform the nation’s transportation systems to help create jobs and build the foundation for “long-term prosperity,” the senators said.

In July, Boxer and Inhofe released an outline for MAP-21.
