Transport Canada recently announced plans to provide up to CA$46.3 million under the National Trade Corridors Fund for three transportation projects in Canada’s prairie provinces.

The town of Oyen, Alberta, will receive CA$11.8 million to expand the Oyen Rail Yard. The project calls for adding add more than 38,200 feet of new track next to the existing yard, enabling the creation of an agricultural and industrial park and a short line, Transport Canada officials said in a press release.

“This expansion will benefit 400 local producers and 15 businesses by improving their connection to larger freight-rail networks, helping them to get their products to market more reliably,” they said.

Transport Canada also is providing CA$25 million to the government of Saskatchewan to upgrade three highways in northern Saskatchewan, and CA$9.5 million to Perimeter Aviation to renovate and expand an existing terminal building at the Winnipeg Richardson International Airport.

“By enhancing transportation infrastructure across the Prairies, we're strengthening our supply chains and driving economic growth,” said Canada Minister of Transport Pablo Rodriguez.

The National Trade Corridors Fund is a competitive, merit-based program designed to help infrastructure owners and users invest in the critical transportation assets that support economic activity in Canada. A total of CA$4.1 billion has been committed to projects since 2017.
