Twin Cities' council, transportation advisory board release 2011 regional solicitation for projects

The Metropolitan Council and Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) have released the 2011 regional solicitation for federally funded transportation projects.

However, the release came with a caveat: Unlike previous regional solicitations, “the availability of federal transportation funding is more uncertain than ever before,” TAB officials said in a prepared statement.

Congress recently extended the Safe Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act — A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) through Sept. 30. Although it is anticipated that Congress will pass a new bill, TAB officials don’t know how much funding will be available, they said.

“Despite this uncertainty, the TAB has decided to continue with the 2011 regional solicitation on schedule and will react to the new federal act when it is passed,” officials said.

TAB plans to hold an information forum on the solicitation process on June 3.
