U.S. Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas) has been named the new chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's (T&I) Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, T&I Chairman Sam Graves (R-Mo.) announced late last week.

Nehls joined Congress on Jan. 3, 2021. Prior to being elected to represent the 22nd congressional district in Texas, Nehls served for nearly 30 years in law enforcement and 21 years in the U.S. Army Reserve.

"Our subcommittee will be active in developing pipeline safety reauthorization legislation, as well as conducting oversight of issues such as the supply chain and Amtrak," said Nehls in a press release.

Meanwhile, Graves announced the T&I's organizational committee meeting will be held Feb. 1. The meeting will be followed by a committee hearing on the state of the nation’s transportation infrastructure and supply-chain challenges.

Among those scheduled to speak at the hearing are Association of American Railroads President and CEO Ian Jefferies, American Trucking Associations President and CEO Chris Spear, Port Houston Executive Director Roger Guenther and Transportation Trades Department AFL-CIO President Greg Regan.
