On Friday, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced the availability of $7.6 billion in annual funding for states, local communities and transit agencies nationwide to help maintain transit and rail operations, as well as to fund capital construction and maintenance projects.
The funds were announced in the Federal Transit Administration’s annual “apportionment notice,” which is published each year to illustrate how Congressional funds for transit will be distributed.
“We’re committed to providing the resources our communities need to deliver affordable, safe and reliable transportation options that will also help families keep more of their hard-earned cash,” said FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff in a prepared statement.
