The California High-Speed Rail Authority soon will unveil proposed station locations and route alignments to link the Bay Area with the Central Valley and southern California on a new high-speed rail system.

At a public meeting to be held this week in Oakland, the authority will outline proposed alignments, including southern approaches to the Bay Area through the Pacheco Pass east of Gilroy, and eastern approaches through the Altamont Pass east of Livermore.

A $9.95 million bond measure to finance the statewide high-speed rail system is scheduled to appear on the state ballot in November. If approved by voters, 220-mph trains could begin traveling between the Bay Area and southern California in eight to 11 years. Trains would travel between San Francisco and Los Angeles in two-and-a-half hours.
