Today, state of New York officials announced they’ll host a “New York State Summit on Rail Transportation” at the College of Nanoscale Science & Engineering in Albany on June 14. The summit’s focus: “revitalizing New York’s economy through high-speed and intercity passenger rail,” according to a prepared statement.

“New York has already received $151 million in grants from the Federal Rail Administration … and we must ensure our rail suppliers, manufacturers and related businesses obtain their share of funding,” said Gov. David Paterson in a prepared statement. “This summit is a fundamental step toward enhancing high-speed passenger rail in our state.”

The program will include presentations by various industry specialists and business leaders, as well as economic development experts, legislative representatives, and state and federal rail officials. The summit will focus on three key areas: winning more high-speed and intercity passenger rail funding, learning how state agencies will help rail-related businesses compete for these funds, and promoting the high-speed rail movement with strategies to fund it.

The summit is open to rail-industry participants, including manufacturers, vendors, suppliers, consultants, contractors and engineering firms, municipal transit authorities, government agencies, legislative representatives, and economic development officials.
