Rail News: High-Speed Rail

California county offers up farm land for potential high-speed train maintenance facility

Officials in Kern County, Calif., recently announced an agreement with a private farming company to provide land for a potential heavy-maintenance facility for California’s high-speed rail system.

The California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) is in the environmental analysis phase for all sections of the state’s proposed 800-mile system. The authority expects to build a heavy-maintenance facility to serve high-speed trains in the Central Valley and is currently evaluating is nine facility proposals.

“While there are a number of sites still being considered for the systems heavy-duty train maintenance facility, I welcome this announcement as yet another sign that Kern County is a serious competitor and a strong and valuable partner in this project,” said CHSRA Chairman Curt Pringle in a prepared statement.
