New York DOT seeks feedback on Empire Corridor EIS
advertisement
On Nov. 10, the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) concluded a series of public meetings to obtain feedback on the environmental review for the Empire Corridor high-speed rail project.
NYSDOT is in the midst of conducting an Environmental Impact Statement for the project, which calls for introducing 110 mph passenger-rail service between Schenectady and Niagara Falls, and implementing high-speed rail service in certain areas between Schenectady and New York City. The department also is seeking to improve reliability and travel times, and increase frequency of existing passenger-rail service along the corridor.
The 463-mile Empire Corridor runs from New York City north to Albany and west to Schenectady, passing through Utica, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo before terminating in Niagara Falls. The majority of the corridor is owned by CSX Transportation.
