Yesterday, Bombardier Transportation and Alstom announced they signed agreements with China’s Ministry of Railways that will strengthen their partnerships to further develop products for Chinese and other rail markets.

Alstom signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the ministry that will help “accelerate new areas of cooperation on a wide spectrum of rail transport mainline segments,” such as intercity and high-speed rolling stock and signaling, according to a press release. Alstom will work with the ministry and its Chinese industrial partners to jointly design, develop and promote advanced railway products and solutions that meet requirements for both domestic and international markets, the firm said.

Meanwhile, Bombardier signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ministry aimed at strengthening their strategic partnership to develop various products and systems, such as rolling stock and signaling solutions, for the Chinese rail market.

Both parties will further collaborate on the development of existing high-speed and very high-speed product platforms, and further extend the partnership to other platforms, according to a press release.

The agreement also establishes China Railway Signal and Communication Corp. as a strategic partner for Bombardier’s advanced signaling systems. The parties will work to jointly develop signaling projects to meet the requirements of China and other rail markets.
