Rail News: High-Speed Rail

USDOT, West Virginia sign $1 million grant agreement

Today, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) announced it obligated a $1 million High Speed Intercity Passenger Rail grant to the West Virginia to develop a state rail plan. The state will provide $1 million in matching funds.

The plan will inventory existing freight- and passenger-rail lines in the state, and analyze the potential for new freight, high-speed, intercity and commuter-rail corridors. The Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 mandated that all states develop a rail plan, which is required in order for a state to apply for additional intercity passenger-rail grants.

To date, the USDOT has obligated more than $5.3 billion to states under the HSIPR program.
