Today, the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) launched the Delaware Third Track Construction Project, which calls for adding a third track along a 1.5-mile segment between the Ragan and Brandy interlockings along the Northeast Corridor, south of Wilmington, Del.
The project also includes upgrading infrastructure, rehabilitating two bridges, and improving signal and communication systems in the area. Scheduled to be completed in early 2015, the improvements will provide service efficiencies for Amtrak Acela and Regional services.
The $53 million project is being funded by a $13.3 million High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail grant, with $13.3 million from the Federal Transit Administration, $11.2 million from the Federal Highway Administration, $10.2 million from DelDOT and $5 million from Amtrak.
