Foxx tours California high-speed rail work sites

U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx on Monday toured construction of California's high-speed rail system in the state's Central Valley.

Accompanied by California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHRSA) Chief Executive Officer Jeff Morales, Foxx visited work sites of the Fresno River Viaduct near Madera, as well as the San Joaquin River Viaduct and the Tuolumne Street Bridge in Fresno.

California State Transportation Agency Secretary Brian Kelly also was in attendance.

During the tour, Foxx spoke with trade and labor union members about their roles in the project's construction, CHSRA officials said in a press release.

Currently, there are eight active construction sites within the project's "Construction Package 1," which is the first 32-mile stretch of high-speed rail under construction between Madera and Fresno counties.
