The California High-Speed Rail Authority yesterday awarded a $35 million design and support services contract to a joint venture between Foster + Partners and Arup (F+P Arup) for the Merced, Fresno, Kings/Tulare and Bakersfield stations planned along the 171-mile high-speed rail segment in Southern California.
The contract directs F+P Arup to complete the first of two separately funded phases, with the first to advance design work at the four sites, including identifying right-of-way and utility relocation requirements necessary for construction, CHSRA officials said in a press release. The second phase will cover final design and construction ready documents.
The first phase is expected to take 30 months, authority officials said.
The nation's first high-speed rail line is being constructed along 119 miles in the Central Valley corridor at more than 30 active sites. Earlier this year, CHSRA advanced design work on an alignment to extend the route north into Merced and south into Bakersfield.
