Engineering firm AECOM recently named John Barna vice president, strategic programs for AECOM Transportation, as well as director of AECOM Transportation’s North American high-speed rail practice. He will help coordinate AECOM’s high-speed rail services and pursue high-speed rail business nationwide.
In addition, Barna will serve as the firm’s client coordinator for the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) and pursuits in the western United States. He also will help develop transportation project business opportunities in California and Washington.
Barna most recently was executive director of the California Transportation Commission, an independent state agency that helps program and fund transportation projects. Prior to that, he was deputy secretary for transportation at the California Business, Transportation and Housing Agency. Barna also has served as president of his own transportation consulting firm, as well as an associate with Planning Company Associates.
Prior to joining Planning Company, Barna was deputy director of CHSRA, where he managed the engineering and environmental analyses for the authority’s proposed corridors between Bakersfield and Los Angeles, and Los Angeles and San Diego. He also was responsible for system integration, financial modeling and public affairs.
