A Bombardier Transportation/Talgo consortium recently received a $917 million contract from Spanish national rail operator RENFE to maintain a fleet of 30 AVE S/112 very high-speed trains for 14 years.
Under its $405 million share of the contract, Bombardier will conduct preventive and corrective maintenance for the train power heads, power supply, signaling and propulsion systems and auxiliaries.
Work, which is expected to begin in 2010, will be performed at RENFE’s depots in Spain.
Bombardier and Talgo currently are manufacturing the AVE trains for RENFE. Bombardier is responsible for the running dynamics, electrical equipment of the power head, auxiliary converter and drive system, and very high-speed bogies. Bombardier also will conduct final assembly and testing, while Talgo will manufacture the passenger coaches.
