The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) opened its newest grade separation at State Route 43 at Jersey Avenue in Kings County on May 20. Located between Jackson and Kent avenues, the two-lane bridge is one of two grade separations in the county.
There are now 61 structures completed across the first 119 miles of active construction in the Central Valley; 30 more structures are underway across Madera, Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties.
Work continues on the high-speed rail project, with 171 miles currently under design and construction from Merced to Bakersfield. More than 80 miles of guideway are complete, and CHSRA completed construction of its southern railhead facility in March.
Earlier this month, CHSRA appointed a consortium of Kiewit, Stacy Witbeck and Herzog to install the track, overhead contact system, train control and communications infrastructure for the 119-mile Central Valley segment. Track installation is scheduled to begin later this year.
