The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) has released a draft 2022 Business Plan for public comment.
Public input will be accepted until April 11 through an online comment form or by email or mail.
The plan reaffirms staff recommendations to build an electrified high-speed rail service line between Merced and Bakersfield, California, with currently available funding, CHSRA officials said in a press release.
The plan also addresses other program progress in multiple regions of California and identifies opportunities with new federal and state funding. California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s transportation infrastructure package, which includes bond funding for high-speed rail, is awaiting legislative approval.
If approved, the business plan would authorize CHSRA to:• deliver an electrified, two-track initial operating segment connecting Merced, Fresno and Bakersfield as soon as possible;• invest statewide to advance engineering and design work as every project section is environmentally cleared; and• leverage new federal and state funds for targeted statewide investments that benefit local service providers and advance high-speed rail in California.
Nearly 300 miles of track of the 500-mile Phase 1 high-speed rail system from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim have been environmentally cleared. The CHSRA board expects to have cleared environmental hurdles for a total 422 miles of track by mid-2022, with project sections running from Palmdale to Burbank and Los Angeles to Anaheim advancing in 2023.
