The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) recently announced it has hired Frank Vacca as chief program manager.
He has more than 35 years of experience working on commuter, intercity and high-speed rail systems. Vacca most recently served as Amtrak's chief engineer, a position he has held since 2006. He held several other positions with the national intercity passenger railroad, as well. Prior to his work at Amtrak, Vacca was deputy general manager for infrastructure engineering at New Jersey Transit.
As CHSRA's chief program manager, Vacca will lead the technical and engineering teams. Construction on California's high-speed system is scheduled to begin in 2013.
"Frank's expertise will help fulfill our ongoing commitment to partner with existing rail systems in building a statewide network," said CHSRA Chief Executive Officer Jeff Morales in a prepared statement.
