The California Transportation Commission recently released $10.9 million in Proposition 1A funds for the Altamont Commuter Express track extension in San Joaquin County.
The project calls for constructing a dedicated passenger-rail track north of the downtown Stockton interlocking between Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway Co. tracks to improve station access and passenger boarding.
Proposition 1A, which provides funds to begin building a statewide high-speed rail system, also includes $950 million for improvements to local transit services that eventually will connect with the high-speed system.
