California high-speed agency approves final route, environmental report

The California High Speed Rail Authority is one step closer to making the state’s high-speed dream a reality. The authority recently approved a Final Program Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement, the last necessary step before a high-speed rail proposal goes before voters in November.
The final report outlines an approved route from San Francisco to the Central Valley. The authority chose the Pacheco Pass alignment as the fastest, most environmentally responsible route for the high-speed rail system because the route will minimize the impact on wetlands and the San Francisco Bay, and eliminate the need for another Bay crossing, bridge or tunnel.
In November, California voters will determine whether to approve Proposition 1, a $9.95 billion bond measure calling for the construction of an 800-mile high-speed train system and improvements to other services that would connect to the high-speed line.
