California's High Desert Corridor project evolves to possibly include high-speed rail connector

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will host four public meetings in December to provide new information on the High Desert Corridor project.
The project, which entails a proposed new freeway connecting Highway 14 in L.A. County to Highway 18 in San Bernardino County, is evolving to possibly include a bike path, a green energy production-transmission facility and a high-speed rail feeder service connector, LACMTA officials said in a prepared statement.
Potentially, the high-speed rail line would connect with the Metrolink station in Palmdale and an XpressWest station in Victorville.
The proposed 63-mile corridor is currently in the draft environmental impact statement (EIS)/environmental impact report (EIR) preparation phase, which began in late 2010. The draft EIS/EIR is expected to be available for public review in late 2013.
