Caltrain: Blended approach to HSR development is 'only one we are willing to embrace'

Caltrain has long been pushing what it terms a “blended” approach to high-speed rail development on the San Francisco peninsula, under which the agency and California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) would jointly fund a project to electrify the corridor between San Jose and San Diego. Caltrain would benefit from increased capacity, and CHSRA would benefit by reducing costs since it wouldn’t have to build dedicated tracks, Caltrain has said.
Now, Caltrain is taking a firmer stance on the issue, sending a letter to CHSRA last week that states the blended system “is the only approach we are willing to embrace,” according to a Feb. 22 article posted on the San Francisco Technology Examiner’s website.
