Yesterday, Connecticut Gov. Jodi Rell announced that $260 million in state funding for upgrades to the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield, Mass., rail corridor is expected to gain approval when the state Bond Commission meets Aug. 11.
The upgrades would help move the state closer to its goal of operating high-speed rail service on the 62-mile line within five years, state officials said in a prepared statement.
The state also plans to apply for $220 million in federal funding through the Federal Railroad Administration’s grant program, which will distribute $2.1 billion in HSR grants and an additional $245 million for individual construction projects within an HSR corridor. Applications are due by Aug. 6.
