The Federal Railroad Administration has obligated $16 million in High-Speed Intercity Passenger Rail program funds to the California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA).

The grant will fund the design of a positive train control system that will help integrate California’s rail network with high-speed passenger service along the 52-mile San Francisco-San Jose corridor.

The funds also will enable CHSRA and the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, which oversees Caltrain, to develop a system to improve schedule management along the San Francisco-San Jose corridor and, by extension, help improve train schedules along the entire California railroad network, according to a press release issued today by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
