FRA obligates $7.9 million to New York for Hudson Line signal improvements

The Federal Railroad Administration has obligated $7.9 million in FY2010 transportation appropriations funds to the New York State Department of Transportation for the Hudson Subdivision signal reliability project, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) announced yesterday.
The project calls for burying a stretch of signal system cables along the Hudson Line between Hyde Park and Red Hook. Signal outages from the existing above-ground signal wires have led to train delays, reduced average operating speeds, lower on-time performance and reduced capacity along the line.
Amtrak currently operates 26 trains along the route daily.
