FRA to hold public meeting on maglev grants, completes California high-speed rail environmental review

On Wednesday, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) will hold a public meeting to address questions regarding $45 million in grant funds the agency will distribute for proposed magnetic levitation (maglev) systems located east of the Mississippi River.
All potential applicants can attend. The FRA plans to award one or more grants that can be used for preconstruction planning activities and capital costs of the fixed guideway infrastructure. Eligible projects are limited to those in or between Pittsburgh, Baltimore-Washington, D.C., and Atlanta-Chattanooga, Tenn. The meeting will be held at the U.S. Department of Transportation headquarters.
Meanwhile, the FRA also issued a Record of Decision on the California high-speed rail system's environmental impact statement for the Bay Area-to-Central Valley corridor. The decision supports the state's selection of a preferred alignment and station locations, and considers the environmental benefits and adverse impacts associated with the alignment. The document also outlines mitigation measures needed to address adverse environmental impacts.
